Food is Medicine Manager, DC Greens
Luisa is the Food is Medicine Manager at DC Greens. She brings her expertise in community health and food access in order to lead a produce prescription program for DC residents, while advancing the organization’s Food is Medicine portfolio. Her work focuses on integrating nutrition-based interventions into health systems through program development, policy analysis, advocacy, and evaluation. Originally from Philadelphia, Luisa has spent over twelve years designing, implementing and leading community health initiatives, centered around nutrition, urban farming, and HIV/AIDS prevention. She has also spent time learning native farming practices in South America. While getting her Master’s in Public Health in Nutrition at UNC-Chapel Hill, Luisa became a certified Affordable Care Act healthcare navigator and dove deep into the complexities of the health care system. Rooted in the belief that food is a human right, Luisa is a fierce advocate for advancing food justice and health equity in the District.
