Founder and Executive Director, Sharing Excess
Evan Ehlers is the Founder and Executive Director of Sharing Excess, a national nonprofit that rescues surplus food from wholesalers, grocers, retailers, and redistributes it to communities experiencing food insecurity. Since launching, the organization has recovered over 130 million pounds of food—valued at nearly $250 million—delivering it to people in need across the U.S. and Latin America. Evan’s passion for food justice began in college, when he donated his unused meal swipes and saw the untapped potential of food redistribution. That moment sparked a bold mission to fight both food waste and hunger at scale. Under his leadership, Sharing Excess became the first nonprofit to operate within major wholesale markets like the Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market and Hunts Point in NYC. His work prioritizes efficiency, equity, and sustainability. Evan’s impact has been recognized nationally, including a recent feature in a MrBeast video that reached over 50 million viewers worldwide.
