Director of Policy and Special Projects, Wellness in the Schools

Alexina Cather is Director of Policy and Special Projects at Wellness in the Schools, a national nonprofit advancing healthy habits for public school students. She also serves as Chief Policy Advisor at the Center for Food as Medicine, working to expand equitable access to food-based healthcare, and advises The Roundtable, a coalition of NYC emergency food providers. Previously, she was Director of Policy Advocacy and Sustainability at the James Beard Foundation, leading food system change initiatives, and spent six years as Deputy Director at the Hunter College NYC Food Policy Center developing evidence-based strategies to address diet-related disease and food insecurity. Alexina collaborates with policymakers, community leaders, and advocates to improve access to nutritious food. She holds degrees from UC Berkeley and the University of San Francisco. A former semi-professional soccer player and science teacher, she is driven by a passion for connecting all people, especially children, to healthy food.
