Our third cohort of Food Leaders Fellows came prepared for their seminar. They did their readings, researched their context, and took diligent notes.

What they couldn’t prepare for was how five days in Aspen would alter their own ways of thinking. This first seminar took these 18 career-oriented leaders away from their desks and placed them back in nature. Hiking the lush mountain passes and herding goats at a local farm allowed fellows to reflect on their place in the food system. Back in the seminar room, they grappled with personal and professional obstacles and mapped out a way forward.

“This experience came at the exact right moment for me,” said Adam Bent, special advisor at Ocean Wise. “It’s given me clarity about the work I want to be doing.”

Adding this group of 18 to our network of Food Leaders Fellows was momentous for our program as well. We’re no longer just creating cohorts, we’re building a community. Each fellow brings their unique expertise, insight, and experience into the fold. And together, they are a force of nature—using their collective power to reshape the food system for the better.
